Dextr AI Secures $6.7M for Hotel Automation Software

San Francisco startup Dextr AI has exited stealth mode after securing $6.7 million in seed capital led by Elevation Capital to build artificial intelligence agents for hotel automation and workflow management.

Dextr AI Secures $6.7M for Hotel Automation Software

When Sajid Shariff returned to the Bay Area in 2024, he caught up with industry contacts from his prior hospitality career. He inquired about what had shifted since his departure during the pandemic, learning that hotels continued to grapple with escalating labor expenses, staffing shortages, and the ongoing push to drive revenue.

To help address these hurdles, Shariff offered to develop an artificial intelligence agent for a couple of locations. The initial agent, named Alfred, responded to visitor inquiries and assisted with check-in and check-out procedures. Within a span of 90 days, online guest ratings improved at both locations. He subsequently rolled out the technology to additional hotels before realizing that guest messaging represented only a fraction of the broader market opportunity.

That momentum brought him together with Scott Arnold to launch Dextr AI, a San Francisco-based startup established in July 2025. The enterprise is now exiting stealth mode backed by $6.7 million in seed capital to construct agents capable of managing bookings, guest inquiries, employee coordination, and other hospitality workflows. Elevation Capital spearheaded the investment, with backing from Foundation Capital. This milestone signifies Dextr’s inaugural institutional funding round.

From guest requests to bookings

Following initial guest management rollouts, Dextr expanded into inbound phone traffic by introducing a voice-based reservation agent called Daisy. Shariff discovered that resolving questions about reservations or addressing details unavailable on third-party booking portals frequently translates into completed bookings. As properties integrated Daisy into their operations, he recognized that these phone conversations were actively generating revenue.

Presently, one major hotel utilizing Dextr’s technology processes between $100,000 and $300,000 monthly in reservations through the voice agent, according to Shariff.

Since then, Dextr has branched out into agents dedicated to group reservations, employee coordination, and supplementary tasks. Its objective is to interconnect these tools so that details collected in one department can trigger actions elsewhere. For instance, if a visitor declines housekeeping services, the guest management agent can relay that update to operations software to dynamically adjust staff schedules.

Another application involves properties running without overnight front-desk personnel. A late-arriving guest can contact the property, have Daisy authenticate their booking, and receive step-by-step room access instructions. Daisy and Alfred—Dextr’s guest management agent—collaborate to streamline the arrival process.

For certain locations, deploying agents to handle late arrivals can eliminate the necessity of staffing an overnight desk shift. Shariff estimates that maintaining such a shift in a regional market like California can incur annual expenses ranging from $70,000 to $80,000.

“It was very hard to hire for these shifts to begin with,” he noted.

Building ROI

Shariff highlights that combining multiple agents is one of three key factors separating Dextr from competing hospitality AI solutions. While an individual agent answering calls or messages addresses a specific duty, linking it with others unlocks broader operational use cases.

“It’s important that we do multiple use cases to see the higher ROI,” he shared in an interview with Crunchbase News.

The second differentiator, Shariff explains, is Dextr’s implementation methodology. Activating these agents involves more than a simple software installation. Because every property manages reservations, staff assignments, and guest needs differently, Dextr dispatches engineers to collaborate directly with clients. These engineers pinpoint optimal integration points, connect the agents to legacy systems, and remain engaged during deployment to ensure strong returns on investment.

“Every property, every operation is different in this space,” he stated. Dextr currently connects with major property management platforms including Oracle Hospitality, OPERA Cloud, StayNtouch, Cloudbeds, and Hostaway.

The third distinction centers on employee interaction. Staff can issue directives via text or voice utilizing a companion interface named Doss, removing the need to master complex steps within an unfamiliar software interface. Shariff pointed out that constant staff turnover makes training workers on intricate tools difficult and leads to knowledge loss when employees leave. Through Doss, “you can call it, you can talk to it, you can text it,” he explained.

Hotels and more

Dextr reports that its agents currently facilitate over 1 million interactions monthly across hundreds of properties. The startup’s client base spans small 21-room boutique locations to large 550-room destinations. These customers encompass independent operators alongside locations flying under the Hilton, Wyndham, Best Western, and IHG banners, alongside call centers, vacation rentals, and outdoor recreation venues.

The firm engages directly with property owners and franchise operators, Shariff noted, while initiating its first direct partnership with an undisclosed major hotel brand. It also collaborates with property management companies, reservation desks, vacation rentals, and outdoor hospitality sites like campgrounds, RV parks, lodges, and golf courses.

Dextr utilizes a subscription-based pricing model determined by the property scale and the specific agents employed, supplemented by usage-based fees for select agents. Shariff chose not to reveal financial figures regarding revenue, profitability, or valuation. Following a heavy focus on pilot initiatives last year, he reported that Dextr accelerated its growth trajectory this spring, achieving month-over-month annual recurring revenue expansions between 20% and 30%, though exact figures were withheld.

The business intends to deploy the fresh capital toward recruiting additional customer-facing engineers, scaling software integrations, and engineering new agent capabilities. Its headcount has expanded from three individuals a year ago to 21.

Krishna Mehra, an artificial intelligence investor at Elevation Capital, told Crunchbase News that Dextr’s early momentum immediately captured their interest, noting how clients leverage the agents to drive bookings and upsells while cutting overhead.

“What stood out immediately was Sajid and Scott’s execution. Dextr scaled to [hundreds of] contracted properties and meaningful ARR without raising a single dollar,” he shared via email. “In a space where most AI companies are still searching for product-market fit, Dextr had customers, zero churn, and a clear ROI story. That combination of founder quality and early traction is exactly what we look for at Elevation.”
